Meeting Minutes June 27, 2017

Meeting notes 6.27.2017
11 people in attendance and 1 new member, Welcome Penny!
This was an unofficial meeting, pretty much just dinner with friends, and thanks to all that attended we all had a great time! For those that couldn’t attend, we missed you and we will see you at the next meeting in July (7.25.17).
There were a few thing that were discussed, just reminders really. The signup sheet has been started for the bead retreat in September (15th-17th). Think about coming to the event, it’s a lot of fun! There are 2 more meetings with a chance to sign up for it but members can always get a hold of Lisa D. to let her know you want to sign up.

Other reminders included the Nebraska State Fair, it a great challenge to participate and the committee has opened up several new categories to judge. Check out their website www.statefair.org . The path to follow is – Get Involved, Open Class Exhibits, Fine Arts; the entry form and info is there.

Several members have started working on the February Challenge – Hearts (get creative with hearts in bead embroidery)

Prolific Beader of the Month is Julie O. There are pics of her work also posted.

Many group members brought Christmas ornaments for the exchange. There was lots of stealing going on in the battle for the best present! But, everyone made out, they were all very beautiful creations.
See you in late July!

Laurie McKeever, Secretary

Miss No Name! (Rhonna? or Ronna?)
WELCOME LADIES! We hope you decide to join us!

Reminder for those attending meetings: PLEASE wear your nametags, we have potential new members joining us and they don’t know who we are yet, I am sure they appreciate this welcoming gesture when joining a new unknown group.

The meeting started with the small review of the Bead Affair, the numbers and feedback was not in yet so it was a short discussion. There were great comments from Teachers and Vendors, we know how to do it right! The dates for next year are April 15th & 16th.

Edna Perkins donations were due. Joni is taking all of the donations to the VFW in Council Bluffs so they can distribute for us. Thank You Joni!

Casting for Recovery projects are due at the next meeting, we want to have 40 donations (fish pendent) to give away at the nest meeting so the representative for this group doesn’t not have to make a return trip this fall.

The Bead Retreat was a topic for discussion, it is coming up in September. The sign up for the outing will start at the June Meeting. We will have a signup sheets available for the attendance and meals starting at the June meeting. Keep it in mind, September will be here before you know it!

The Nebraska State Fair has information on their website now. If anyone would like to submit a piece for judging, think about doing it soon, the fair is at the end of August.

A new beading challenge was decided on. The challenge is to bead embroider a heart. For this challenge, you can do anything you want, a pendent, focal piece, earrings even a pin. Use your imagination! These will be submitted at the February 2018 meeting, so you have plenty of time to come up with an idea and work on it.

The May project will be a Super Duo bracelet that Lisa will be teaching.

The random number generator picked Kathy to win the exchange, Cindy forgot to bring her piece so she will bring it in May.

Beady Bunch Meeting 10.25.2016

October-November, 2016 Project

16 Members were in attendance for tonight’s meeting and the pill bottle testers were there so we had a few members participate in that. After the testing was completed the meeting was called to order by President Sheri Walters.
This was a busy meeting with lengthy discussions on all topics. The meeting started with a discussion about the final plans for the weekend class coming up in November with Teacher Amy Katz.

A pot-luck sign-up sheet was passed around the group. As a reminder to those that did not attend the meeting , but are attending the classes: this is a pot luck and every attendee must contribute to the lunches on either Saturday OR Sunday. Call Lisa Dryden with your decision. The choice of food is your decision but you must bring enough to share with the group.
VP Chris Johnson communicated that some members of the Nebraska Bead Society have expressed interest in participating, so she suggested that the classes now open to any non-members that would like participate as well. The group voted unanimously in favor, resulting in the decision that each non-member who would like to take the class will pay a fee of $50.00 per class and must contribute to the potluck luncheon. It is stressed that these are not beginners classes, intermediate and advanced ONLY. All beaders MUST bring a Lamp to use because the venue is not well lit.
The next order of business were the nominations for officers, no new nominations were submitted and voting takes place at the November meeting. There were no new nominations, so the choices on the ballet remain, Sheri Walters – President, Chris Johnson – Vice President, Lisa Dryden – Treasurer, Laurie McKeever – Secretary, Webmaster – Joni Stinson, Librarian – Cindy Smith.
Mona Jenkins was one of the attendees of the Casting for Recovery event in Valentine NE for breast cancer survivors. She relayed to the group that the bracelets we donated were greatly appreciated by the other participants. The group agreed that everyone participating in the making of the donations will work on the same pendant but colors can vary. See Chris or Sheri at any of the next meetings for the pattern.
The group does not have access to the church facilities in June of every year due to a charity event that takes place. The group agreed that dinner with an ornament exchange at the June meeting will be planned. Some type of Christmas ornament, beaders discretion, should be made by anyone that would like to participate. All members are welcome to join the dinner, and not required to participate in the exchange. Venue and dates will be determined at a later date during a group meeting.
The Bead exchange winner this month was Mona Jenkins!
Show and Tell highlighted the some very talented members this month. Prolific Beader of the Month is Lisa Dryden! Check out the photos of her stash (she has a name tag included in the picture).

The meeting was adjourned and everyone started working on the beaded flower that Chris was teaching. This is a 2 part project that will continue at next months meeting. Participants are to bring with them :

11° seed beads
1 tube of delicas
15° seed beads
1-12mm Rivoli
Drop beads – 3-4mm
Ultra Suede for backing

The picture of the blue flower that is posted is to give members an idea of how the beads needed can go together. You can choose any color scheme you want or mix it up !

See you in November!

The Beady Bunch Meeting Minutes August 28, 2012
The meeting was called to order.
Lisa gave the Treasurer’s report.
Business:
September 13th will be the get together to work on unfinished projects.  6:30 to 9:00 pm
September 25th will be the meeting and project.  Gail’s project is a mystery project.  The project will need 1 tube of seed beads no bigger than size 6.  Size 11 or 8’s work best.  And wire no thinner than 26.  The best size would be 22 or 24.  Wire cutters will be needed.
Joan has talked to Mary Goddard who would be interested in having a workshop in the Spring for us.  No project has been decided yet, but it would be a Saturday workshop with one project in the morning and another in the afternoon.  An example for the projects would be a beaded bead and a sphere.
Mary will have UFO beading sessions at her house Thursday September 6th and 20th, from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.  Bring your project, lunch and drinks.  The UFO sessions will be the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the Month.  She would like a 24 hour notice so she can have tables set up to accommodate those attending.  RSVP (817) 937-9891.
We had Show and Tell and Charlene taught Bead Crochet.
Thanks Charlene!

July 24, 2012 Project and Supplies Needed

This is the necklace that our member, Mary, will be presenting at the July meeting.  I apologize for the “blurry” quality of the photo….but you get the idea.  Mary did not photograph her sample and sold it….so this is a thumbnail from the Beadwork site.

Saint Petersburg Stitch Necklace
5 grams size 11 seed beads (Color A)
5 grams size 8 seed beads (Color B)
10 grams 4.5 mm flat square 2-hole beads (Miyuki Tila Beads work best)
9 8 X 10 mm top drilled briolettes
2 split rings
1 clasp
Braided beading thread (Fireline)
Bring basic beading supplies: beading mat, scissors, size 12 needles, etc.)
I used 2 complimentary colors for my necklace. Color A and the Tilas were the same color but of different values. Color B and the briolettes were the second color and can be of the same value. PS: value means light, medium or dark shade of color.
Last time I was at Beads Etc. Lynette had both the Tila beads and the Briolettes
.
Thanx’s
Mary
See you at the meeting!
